Institutional Digital Asset Trading: How to ensure long-term success

As digital assets continue to gain traction, financial institutions are looking for ways to integrate them into their existing infrastructure. However, the process is often more complex than it initially seems.

At first glance, adapting existing systems to handle digital asset trading seems like a logical step.

However, taking a closer look leads to one fundamental challenge: existing infrastructure is not designed to support scalable, secure, and efficient digital asset operations.

Each asset class comes with its own technical and regulatory requirements. Trading venues operate on vastly different infrastructures, requiring continuous maintenance.

What may start as a “simple” integration often leads to high project risks with unforeseen challenges, massive operational and administrative hurdles, and significant timeline delays on the long run.

To unlock the potential of digital assets while minimizing these risks, leading financial institutions are shifting their approach - laying a solid foundation for scalable, secure, and efficient digital asset operations.

The Trever Trading Module

The Trading Module is a “system”, that allows institutions to unlock trading efficiencies through best price execution (MiCAR relevant) and keeping oversight of all transactions and balances across different venues. Financial institutions get:

Standardized Data: Institutions can easily monitor balances and trading activities because all venue data is unified and presented in a standardized format. This generalized data gets synchronized seamlessly into existing systems (if applicable).

Scalability: No matter how high the demand, it scales effortlessly to accommodate an increasing number of venues and trades. Institutions can always offer end-customers the best price through the Best Price Execution feature.

Flexibility: With existing connections to 30+ venues, financial institutions remain highly flexible and can quickly adapt to market demand. Additionally, the trading module can be expanded with further modules to cover complete end-to-end digital asset processes.

How to implement the Trading Module

Depending on whether financial institutions already have an existing system, such as an Order Management System (OMS), or not, the trading module can be implemented in different ways:

  1. Institutions with an existing system: The current OMS and existing processes for trading remain in place while the Trever trading module only connects via one interface. All digital asset related processes are routed via Trever, which then synchronizes all generalized data to the OMS.
  2. Institutions without an existing system: The Trever Trading Module can serve as the OMS to trade and monitor digital assets in one place. Within 4 weeks, institutions are ready to go live and remain fully compliant throughout all processes, from order quotation to executing the best price to keeping track of all balances and trading activities.

No matter the starting point, it is up to financial institutions to decide which path best meets their needs. If there are any questions or uncertainties about the trading module, our experts are here to support: contact@trever.io
